Important Safe Mode and Evasi0n7 Untether Jailbreak 7.0.4 Security Updates
Yesterday, Saurik issued a very safe update (we mean that literally) for jailbroken iOS 7.0.4 devices inside Cydia. Following the hacker’s semi-recent WinterBoard and Cydia Substrate updates, a new iOS 7 compatible Safe Mode version is now available inside Cydia. Although the package’s name may not sound as though its paramount, it truly is – it’s the only line of defense between your device and tweaks that are incompatible with it. Previously, if one were to jailbreak 7.0.4, the new iteration of Safe Mode wouldn’t be installed resulting in confusion if a tweak or extension caused the Springboard to crash. In today’s article, you’ll find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions regarding “re-jailbreaking” and we’ll also inform you of a very powerful and versatile Cydia tweak.
Recently, the evad3rs’ issued evasi0n7 version 1.0.4 to implement revisions to “Untether security” – as mentioned in the video embedded below, it’s not necessary to re-jailbreak in order to apply the new evasi0n7 updates to your device.
Like with the all-new Cydia Substrate Safe Mode update, installing the secured Evas0n 7.x Untether update is as simple as navigating to the “Changes” section inside Cydia, tapping “Refresh” in the top left corner of the display and installing all available updates (this procedure is demonstrated in-depth in the above video).
Now, when a device’s Springboard crashes with the latest version of Safe Mode installed, all tweaks built upon Cydia Substrate will be disabled, the wallpaper will be replaced with a gray background and the customary “Exit Safe Mode” message will display in the status bar. To return your device to its fully jailbroken state, simply tap the status bar, followed by “Restart”. For a visual representation of Safe Mode, either watch iCrackUriDevice’s video or refer to our featured image at the beginning of this article.
As for the “very powerful” Cydia tweak that was alluded to in the first paragraph, the above video showcases VideoPane: an incredible premium tweak that enables true video multitasking. With VideoPane enabled, iOS 7 devices can detach and overlay videos systemwide across all apps – the tweak even functions with all forms of playable video.
We’ll have additional coverage on future Cydia updates, for now however, be sure to install both “Evasi0n 7.x Untether” and Substrate Safe Mode to ensure that your device is fully protected from incompatible packages.
